Ram Sales
We feel strongly about the propagation of this heritage breed of sheep. With that in mind, we seek to develop a sound flock in terms of genetics and characteristics. Selling quality rams to improve the flocks of others as well as to encourage a healthy breed throughout the United States is one of our paramount goals. Please go to our Main Sheep Page for more information and the history concerning the American Tunis sheep breed.
All sheep that are sold for breeding have "RR" genetics for Scrapie resistance, will have received CDT vaccination, will have been weaned at 12 weeks of age, and will be registered with the National Tunis Sheep Registry. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to hold any specific ram that is for sale. A four-generation pedigree will be furnished to the prospective buyer upon request.
Because Tunis sheep do produce wool, we band tails to the appropriate length within their first week to reduce the risk of fly strike issues that could lead to death and yet not too short as to compromise the health and well being of the sheep as they get older. Therefore, we adhere to the veterinarian recommended practice of banding after the distal end of the caudal tail fold. We feel strongly that quality conformation should be passed on to future generations and not endangered by the risk of prolapse that may occur with sheep whose tails have been completely removed.
(More (better) pictures will be added as soon as all lambs cooperate.) :-)
